Sophie The Pigeon Harness – A DIY Pigeon Harness
I’m pleased to (finally) announce the release/publication of my Sophie The Pigeon Harness. I have been working on this pigeon harness project for over 465 days now. These 465 days include the initial design, first test versions, re-designing it to improve it, then redesigning it again to make it more comfortable for Sophie (and thus now also for other rescue pigeons), making a full PDF tutorial on how to make the Sophie The Pigeon Harness and a whopping 45ish minute video tutorial on how to make it (of which the second half is about dangers, risks and important stuff to know before you’re taking your rescue and/or pet pigeon outside).
There are many reasons why some pigeon (Sophie included) should not be free-flying outdoors (anymore), and some of those are well explained on the project page itself, partially in the PDF document and you can also find plenty of information about this topic when doing a bit of research online yourself 🙂 .
I however didn’t liked the idea of keeping her (Sophie) indoors 24/7 either, and therefor I wanted a reliable, safe and comfortable solution specifically made for pigeons, which is safe to use with her outside. There are some other alternatives (like pigeon pants), but those are actually not intended for outdoor use, and in my personal opinion would restrict Sophie too much when we are going outside to fly (or on trips).
Therefor I decided to develop the Sophie The Pigeon Harness, which I have now shared publicly so everyone can make one for their (rescue) pigeon(s).
All you would need to make the Sophie The Pigeon Harness (aside from the leash and soft brake) is an (old) bra and a buckle clip, which means that you could basically make one for less than $5,-
In both the written PDF tutorial and the video tutorial on YouTube, I clearly explain how to make the Sophie The Pigeon Harness, the soft brake and what type of (main) leash you could use for your pigeon to get some decent exercise for your pigeon to keep your pigeon fit and healthy.
The project page itself also contains lots of additional information about the Sophie The Pigeon Harness and why I have chosen to use a bra as base for the Harness.
The harness how-to/tutorial is completely free (of charge), all we (me and Sophie) would like to ask you, is to make sure to like the video and to subscribe to both our YouTube Channels so that we can keep making more content and projects like this in the future 🥰
